Good Health Just Got Easier to Swallow

E.O.B.B.D Essential Oil Certification Explained

Recreational aromatherapy, which is what we normally see advertised in the media, can get away with purchasing essential oils of unknown origin or quality. But, for therapeutic medicinal purposes that is not the case. A therapeutic grade oil must be able to be traced back to the field and distiller from which it was produced and the exact chemical makeup must be known. This is why we have chosen to carry E.O.B.B.D (H.E.B.B.D. in French) oils. The E.O.B.B.D. label is your guarantee of purity. This label is only granted through the I.N.S.A. - (Institut de Normalization Scientifique d’Aromatologie)- a scientific committee of independent health professionals based in Europe. E.O.B.B.D. means essential oils botanically and biochemically defined. Our source laboratory in France, was awarded the H.E.B.B.D. certification, as a result of origin and quality controls operated on each lot of essential oil sold. A real quality-assurance system is set up: tracing of lots, botanical description, organoleptic characteristics, extraction mode, full physical and chemical analyses (GC/MS coupling). These controls are made under the responsibility of a Ph.D. pharmacist. For therapeutic use, essential oils must meet various standards guaranteeing origin.

1. The exact botanical species of the plant
The term Lavender for example is inadequate because there is more than one species of lavender. Each species has its own particular aroma, and a specific essence is found in its tissues. A properly defined botanical species gives the name of the TYPE in Latin, followed by a QUALITATIVE DESCRIPTION, and sometimes the VARIETY, if such exists.

Lavandula, then, is not a species but a general name which covers many types of lavender such as: vera, spica, stoechas, hybrida, these being qualitative descriptions of individual different types of lavender. The association of the TYPE and DESCRIPTION defines the BOTANICAL SPECIES, for example: Lavandula vera, Lavandula hybrida.

2. The producing organ
This precision is of little concern when the entire plant is distilled, (as with Mentha piperita - Peppermint) but it must be of relevance in the case of certain plants principally trees or aromatic shrubs, because the essence varies qualitatively according to the part of the plant being considered.

Cinnamomum zeylanicum or Cinnamon of Ceylon (LAURACEAES) expands into three specific essences:
  • Essential oil of leaves, rich in eugenol (phenol)
  • Essential oil of bark, rich in cinnamaldehyde (aldehyde)
  • Essential oil of roots, rich in borneol (ketone)
It is therefore written: Cinnamomum zeylanicum p.o. leaves, or p.o. bark, or p.o. roots. 3. The biochemical specificity
According to its biochemical specificity, the essential oil of any given species will have some individual characteristics of its own. The data of this specificity shows the composition, which provides the essential oil with its particular therapeutic action, though such components are not necessarily in the majority. The biochemical specificity must then be mentioned so that the therapeutic use of the essential oil corresponds to its properties.

Example: Thymus vulgaris b.s. linalool, Thymus vulgaris b.s. thymol, Thymus vulgaris b.s. citronellol, etc.
Furthermore, the essential oil having the following characteristics must absolutely be rejected:
·       deterpened essential oil
·       chemically reconstituted essential oil (Niaouli, frequently is)
·       adulterated essential oil (when synthetic aromatic products are added)
·       essential oil diluted with less precious essential oil
·       essential oil extracted with organic solvents
·       burned essential oil (distilled at too high a temperature and pressure)
With such products it is impossible to practice aromatic medicine. Their use leads quickly to manifestations of intolerance and intoxication, which are contrary to the balance and health that we seek. We feel incredibly fortunate to have such high quality suppliers with such integrity and dedication. I know each and everyone of our suppliers personally. Everyone of them is esteemed within the professional aromatherapy world. We have much to be excited about. There are many great things in store for us all in this aromatic adventure we are taking together.

Tea Tree Oil - "The Smart Oil"

Tea Tree Essential Oil: Melaleuca alternifolia, p.o. leaves; extracted by steam distillation

Tea Tree, the “smart” oil, does not kill bacteria indiscriminately. Unlike antibiotics which kill all bacteria, Tea Tree oil identifies and kills the destructive bacteria while leaving the friendly bacteria we need to stay healthy. Tea Tree also stimulates the immune system.

Properties: Anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antiviral, bactericidal, balsamic, cicatrizant, diaphoretic, fungicidal, immuno-stimulant, parasiticide, vulnerary. Non-toxic!

Uses for E.O.B.B.D Certified Tea Tree Essential Oil:
Note: Only use Ancient Legacy E.O.B.B.D certified oils with the suggested uses below. Oils that are not certified come from an unknown origin, are diluted, and may contain toxins. Never ingest or apply oil to your skin directly (neat) that is not E.O.B.B.D. certified.

Sore Throat or Cough – “Tea Tree Lick” Just put a drop of the oil on your little finger (the finger which is least likely to be rubbed in your eyes) and suck it off. Do this every 5 minutes until your sore throat is gone. Works best when done at the first sign of sore throat.

Boosting the Immune System - Most chronic illnesses stem from a weakened immune system which is often related to problems with the digestive system. Do a “Tea Tree lick” to disinfect the digestive system. Use this for all chronic conditions such as respiratory, urinary, digestive, hormonal, skin, joints, and so on.

Warts – Apply one drop of Tea Tree to a plaster (it's less messy that way than if you were to apply it to the wart directly), and then "stick it" to the wart! We did this twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed. One week later, and goodbye wart!!

Toe and Nail Fungus – Apply neat to affected area

Washing Dishes –Add a few drops to dishwater

Mosquito/Insect bites – Apply directly to bite to disinfect and help prevent West Nile.

Ticks – Put a drop on the tick and it will let go. The oil will also disinfect the area.

Disinfectant Hand Soap – To non-antibacterial liquid hand soap (unscented is best) add 15 to 20 drops of Tea Tree oil. Shake to mix well.

Disinfectant Spray – add 15 to 20 drops of Tea Tree oil to a 4 oz spray bottle. Spray bathroom fixtures, toilet, door knobs, toys, counter tops, spray in shoes…ext.

Laundry – Add 20 – 24 drops to washing machine to disinfect laundry. This is especially great to use when washing clothing or bedding from someone who has been sick. (I have a front loader which uses less water, so I use 10-15 drop of oil)

Brushing Teeth – Apply a drop of Tea Tree oil to toothbrush with toothpaste. After brushing teeth add a drop to bristles on the toothbrush to keep germs from growing on it.

Mouthwash – Add one drop of Peppermint essential oil and 1 drop of Tea Tree oil to distilled water. Shake well and use as you would regular mouthwash.

Pimples – At first sight of blemish, apply Tea Tree oil neat from the bottle. Apply frequently until blemish is gone.

Athlete’s foot – Apply Tea Tree oil neat from the bottle to affected area or add 10 to 12 drops to foot bath

Cold Sores and Canker Sores – Apply one drop neat to the affected area. Works best if you apply it as soon as you feel one coming on and continue to apply it until it is gone.

Scrapes and Cuts - Add 3 to 5 drops of Tea Tree oil to 16 oz of water to cleanse the cut. Add 20 drops of Tea Tree oil and 5 drops of Lavender oil to a 4 oz spray bottle of distilled water and use as an antiseptic spray.

Keeping you healthy – Apart from boosting your immune system when ingested, it is also beneficial to inhale the vapors of the Tea Tree oil to kill airborne germs. This can be done by simply opening the bottle and sniffing it or by putting a drop on a tissue, but the best way is to wear an oil necklace. Tea Tree vapors will slowly seep through the cork in the bottle. If someone around you sneezes/coughs you can open the bottle for an extra dose. Oil necklaces are also great because you will always have the oil handy wherever you go to disinfect cuts, or to reapply to warts, canker sores, pimples, and so on. You can also mix a drop or two with a carrier oil and rub it on the bottom of your feet to be absorbed so that it can kill bacteria in your system.

Note: Deep Cleanser essential oil is very good to use in the disinfectant spray, in soaps, laundry, and so on. It is a powerful antiseptic. Deep Cleanser is a wonderful mixture of Sage, Ocean Pine, Lemongrass, Juniper Berry, Cypress, Frankincense and other pure essential oils. It smells lovely.

Add Zip to Your Water

We all know how important it is to drink lots and lots of water, but some of us find plain water a bit boring. Instead of turning to drinks that are loaded with sugar, sweeteners, artificial flavors, or like soda pop are carbonated, try giving your water a little zip with E.O.B.B.D. Certified Lemon Essential Oil. Add a drop or two of lemon oil to a bottle of water.

Not only does the lemon add a bit of zip to make your water taste great, it also has many health benefits:
  • It purifies the water
  • It purifies your liver
  • It purifies your blood
  • It stimulates the immune system (it stimulates your white blood cells)
  • It is beneficial to people struggling with weight gain, obesity or cellulite
What a great way to enjoy water and stay healthy!

NOTE: Ingesting essential oils can be dangerous! Please, please, please ONLY use E.O.B.B.D certified essential oils. All Ancient Legacy oils are E.O.B.B.D. certified, which is why they are the only essential oils I trust or recommend using in the ways I described above. A Healthy Gut = A Healthy You

Did you know that 85% of your immunity is in your gut? Your digestive system is the first line of defense, but most of us have a very week digestive system due to prescription drugs (antibiotics, etc.), a bad diet, or something as simple as depletion of your good bacteria/enzymes as you get older. It is highly recommended that you do a Flora Program before you start a nutritional program so that you are able to absorb all the great nutrition with which you will be pampering your body. Plus, since your gut is your first line of defense against all sorts of illnesses, this Flora program is vital in keeping you healthy.

Flora program -- flood your system with ProBiotics:
IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE TOO MANY PROBIOTICS!

For children:
  • Cut dosage.
  • For babies and children who have difficulty swallowing pills, open capsules into a bit of plain yogurt for them to eat.
Now your digestive sytem can fend off illness, and you are able to absorb nutrients much more efficiently, keeping you HEALTHY! You are off to a good start in digestive health!

Using Essential Oils in the Laundry

Add 20 – 24 drops of Tea Tree Oil to washing machine to disinfect laundry (I have a front loader which uses less water, so I use 10-15 drops of oil). This is especially great to use when washing clothing or bedding from someone who has been sick. I use it when washing my cloth diapers. They come out smelling nice and fresh and I can be confident that they have been disinfected without chemicals that harm the baby and shorten the life of the diaper.

I also LOVE using the Deep Cleanser Essential Oil in the laundry instead of the Tea Tree oil. It's a powerful antiseptic and smells lovely. When I add just 5-10 drops of this oil to my diapers they come out smelling fresh. Deep Cleanser is a wonderful mixture of Sage, Ocean Pine, Lemongrass, Juniper Berry, Cypress, Frankincense and other pure essential oils. It's antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, non-toxic, and safe to use around children and pets.

If you use a dryer to dry your clothes, you can also add a few drops of your favorite oil to a facecloth and sick it in the dryer with wet laundry for a nice fragrance.

Tea Tree Essential Oil for Sore Throat or Cough

The “Tea Tree Lick”: Just put a drop of the oil on your little finger (the finger which is least likely to be rubbed in your eyes) and suck it off. Do this every 5-10 minutes until your sore throat is gone. This works best when done at the first sign of sore throat.

Tea Tree oil doesn't taste as bad as one would think, but if you are someone who can't stand the taste, try sticking your finger as far back in your mouth as possible where your taste buds are less sensitive to the taste. My 7 and 5 year old will ask for a "Tea Tree Lick" when they have a sore throat. If they can put up with the taste then so can you. :) It really works and is worth doing to avoid getting a severe sore throat or cough. Using E.O.B.B.D. certified Tea Tree Essential oil in a "Tea Tree Lick" is safe and without any unwanted, harmful side effects.

Note: Ingesting essential oils can be dangerous! Please, please, please ONLY use E.O.B.B.D certified essential oils in a "Tea Tree Lick". Other oils which do not have this certification can be adulterated with harmful fillers and can even be toxic. Most essential oils have a warning on the bottle not to ingest them. Only E.O.B.B.D certified Tea Tree oil is safe to be used in a "Tea Tree Lick".

All Ancient Legacy oils are E.O.B.B.D. certified, which is why they are the only essential oils I would trust or recommend using in the ways I described above. To read more about why E.O.B.B.D certification is so important, click here.

Adicted to Doctors

I've noticed that some people run to the doctor way too hastily...even for the littlest things. I think it is WAY over done by the majority of people and I noticed it mostly with parents of young children. Fear is what drives them there. Their child spikes a temp and off they run because they are unsure of how to help them. They rely on doctor visits and prescriptions when treating their children.

When I was sick as a child my mom would say: "Well, let's see! Your grandma used to do this..." Or "Your great-grandma always said that...!" And then she would get out whatever "old time" remedy would come to her and before I knew it I was better. It was very rare for her to drag me out of my warm bed to take me to a doctor's office full of germs.

The common belief is that one needs a synthetic drug to be relived of symptoms or to be cured - the "old remedies" do not work. Sadly, this belief can result in many complications. Drugs have unwanted side effects and reactions that can harm the body and sometimes even be deadly. Have you noticed TV commercials for synthetic drugs these days? The last part of the commercial in which they list all the possible side-effects takes longer to do than promoting the drug itself!

Don't get me wrong. Drugs do have their place and sometime are even life-saving, but for the most part you can take care of illnesses naturally. Our moms, grandmas, and great-grandmas were more knowledgeable in natural healing then our generation is today.

I've learned so much from Dr Wallach and the information that Youngevity has available to us to utilize. I no longer drag my 8 month old baby to the emergency room at 3 am just because he has a temp (yes, I did that with my first born...I was terrified - he was fine by the time I arrived at the ER!!!). I have become very confident in the natural remedies that I have learned about and use often. Now when my children are sick I'm able to stay calm and can asses the situation appropriately. I use the appropriate essential oils, supplements, and remedies, tuck them into their beds and before I know it all is well. The key is to know when a doctors visit is absolutely necessary. Most of the time, at least in my experience, a doctor is not needed.

And the ultimate cure? A cuddle from Mom!

Happy Mother's Day!
